So what I was finding is that these young mothers weren't getting the support that they needed to maintain their children. Once those children are taken, it's hard for them to get them back because they're faced with poverty, sometimes low education and low resources. And so I find that their children grow up in that environment or are taken away from them. And those mothers themselves have seen their mothers do the same thing. And so I really felt like they needed education.
They needed additional support and assistance beyond what the system could provide for them. Because a lot of times you're in communities that are not exposed to certain things. You're in communities that are very limiting. And them having a mindset of, you know, this is all I can do. This is what's expected of me to do. And my family did this, so this is what I'm going to do. And that broke my heart because they weren't learning how to parent. They weren't learning there was more that they have access to or could have access to. And I wanted to change that.
I wanted to be in a position of hope, to provide hope for them. Because I think with being in the military and leaving home at 17, to go into the military, seeing other places and spaces. Yes, sir. Seeing other places and spaces. That broadened my horizon. And so I felt like if we can get them out of their situation or expose them to more, that that would help turn and change the trajectory for their children
